BME Cancer Communities are pleased to be a partner in the development of this new interactive tool developed by Nottingham Trent University. It was a collaboration between the Department of Psychology (School of Social Sciences) and the Interactive Systems Research Group (School of Science and Technology) at NTU.
Other partners include:
- Lisa Jackson (Mon0Lisa Productions, creator of the Patty Dumplin character),
- Friends and Bredrins (FAB) - A prostate cancer support and self-help group which is based in Nottingham, the aim of which is to help all Caribbean and African men, as well as all other ethnic minorities
- Mr Masood Khan (Consultant Urology surgeon, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust).
The tool helps users assess individual prostate cancer risk, so to encourage men to seek medical advice, and provides information about how clinical diagnosis is made.
It is set around a conversation about prostate cancer symptoms, risk factors, and diagnostic procedures taking place in a fictional barber’s shop. The narrative is available in patois with English subtitles.
This tool is also available as an Android app.
